Grapevine and Microsoft Windows Vista

Grapevine F&I is compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista. Some things are different. The purpose of this page is to define some of those differences, and suggest ways to work around possible problems.

Problem:

I'm having difficulty setting up a network share / network drive on a Grapevine server running Vista.

Solution:

Microsoft Vista is different from previous versions of Windows when it comes to setting up network shares.   Here's an excerpt from a Microsoft Technet article which describes how to setup a network share.  Here's the entire article.

Problem:

I can't edit the Autoexec.nt file.  (I'm unable to change my Grapevine USERID).

Solution:

"User Account Control"  (UAC) may prevent you from editing the Autoexec.nt file where the USERID value is stored.  Disable UAC and then edit the file.

  • Disabling UAC:
    • Edit User Profile.  An easy way to do this is to click on the windows start button and click on your user icon,  (the cute doggy) in the upper right corner of your start menu. You may also edit your User properties by going to the User applet in Control Panel.   This will display your User Properties.  Figure 1

    • Select "Turn User Account Control On Or Off"
  • Turn off User Account Control by unchecking the check box and select OK.   Figure 2

  • You may now edit the Autoexec.nt file.  You may wish to re-enable UAC after you are finished.
